Choosing starting hands in poker

Choosing reliable starting hands to participate in Texas Hold’em is crucial. This is important because careful and thorough selection of starting hands prevents you from wagering the banks with unreliable hands, which can result in losing a lot of money.

On the other hand, “selecting starting hands” is choosing good hands and discarding bad ones for starting hands.

In Texas Hold’em, any starting hand can win. However, the fact of the matter is that certain hands are capable of winning more than others. Thus, you will win more money in the long run if you only play casino games with good hands.

The main factors that influence the choice of starting hands in poker: the first “category” of starting hands consists of two percent of the total number of starting hands.

Big singles and big pocket pairs are usually the hallmarks of good starting hands in Texas Hold’em. As a result, the best players in Texas Hold’em are:

  • AA;
  • KK;
  • QQ;
  • AKs.

A one-suit is indicated by a small “s” at the end of the list of cards. It comes from the word “suited”, which means “one-suit”. Pocket cards of the same suit have more equity because there are more suited cards in the deck. Thus, you are more likely to collect a flush with single-suit AKs than with mixed-suit AKs. At the top of the ranking, the small letter “o” stands for offsuited.

Obviously, we would prefer to play only the best starting hands, and if we were allowed to play only those starting hands in every hand, we could win a lot of money. In fact, it is unlikely that we will win in the long run if we play only premium hands and discard all others. But such a strategy might not be effective at low limits, where other players probably don’t follow the game and therefore don’t know that we play only premium hands.

second “category” of heavy hands.

You will have to drop a lot of other starting hands if you only play starting hands from the “elite” group. Now you won’t have the opportunity to make more money. Although the above hands are kind of the “cream of the crop” for all starting hands, there are many other pocket cards that, if played correctly, can yield big profits in the long run.

Such hands include:

  • AKS;
  • AQs;
  • AJs;
  • KQs;
  • JJ;
  • TT.
